Students should be making meaningful artwork. One way to encourage this personal growth is by writing lessons that have a Big Idea. For one of my units, the Big Idea is transformation. Throughout this unit, students explore transformation by examining the key concepts, underlying themes, relationships, and different perspectives related to transformation.

To accommodate diverse learners, I focus on structuring my lessons to best meet student needs. For example, when teaching about the proportions of the face, I first draw the face with common misconceptions, then I correct those mistakes in front of the class. After that, we break down the process into steps and I have students draw along with me. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to recognize and correctly draw a proportional face.
